FUTURE OF URBAN ENVIRONMENTS

Redesigning Urban Environments

for Regenerative Communities

OUR THESIS

According to the World Bank (World Bank, 2023), by 2050, cities will accommodate 70 % of the global population. Today, they already host most of the world's population and are responsible for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions.

We delve into the transformations of cities to solve social, economic, and environmental challenges. Collaborating with various stakeholders – developers, architects, engineers, urban planners, public authorities, startups – we are shaping the urban spaces of tomorrow through tangible solutions.

How design practices can leverage circularity to create desirable urban environments

Faced with challenges of inclusivity, sustainability, well-being, cities stand at a pivotal crossroads. In Quebec, the built environment represents 34% of its material impact and 27% of its waste, underscoring the urgent need for innovative solutions. (Circle Economy, 2021)

Our approach merges the expertise and skills of design professions with circular economy principles, paving the way for new urban models that unlock unprecedented economic opportunities. By incorporating reclaimed materials, innovative design, metabolism thinking and new forms of urban living into neighborhood projects, we contribute to desirable circular cities for citizens and businesses alike.

CIRCULARITY

How can we apply innovative design to foster the development of desirable affordable housing

In Quebec, the demand for affordable housing is reaching critical levels, particularly evident in the greater Montreal area, where nearly 200,000 households struggle due to the lack of accessible housing options (Observatoire du Grand Montréal, 2022).

The construction of new affordable housing has become a top priority, driving us to swiftly innovate in creating living spaces that are not only accessible but also attractive, sustainable, and desirable for those who will call them home.
